Candid Family Photography in Hanover, PA

Hanover PA family photographer capturing real, unposed moments across South Central Pennsylvania and Maryland

Life with kids isn’t perfectly posed, so your family photos don’t need to be either. I’m Cain, a family photographer based in Hanover, Pennsylvania, and I’m here for the real stuff—muddy shoes, goofy laughs, the way your toddler refuses to let go of that one stuffed animal. From quiet, cozy moments to full-on chaos, I photograph your family the way you actually are, not how a Pinterest board says you should look.

What to Expect From Your Family Photography Experienc

Step 01

Plan the Session

We’ll start with a quick call or email to talk about your family, your schedule, and what you’re hoping for from your session. We’ll choose a date, talk through location ideas around Hanover, Gettysburg, York, or beyond, and go over what to wear so everyone looks like themselves, just slightly more put together than on a Wednesday school morning.

Step 02

Let’s Connect

Once we’re booked, I’ll send over a prep guide with outfit tips, how to handle little ones who are shy (or wired), and what to bring. We’ll decide on a time—usually golden hour for the best light—and a loose plan for the kinds of images you want: playful, cuddly, a mix of both, or even a few “grandma will frame this” shots.

Step 03

Session Day

On the day of your session, your job is simple: show up and be with your people. I’ll guide you into natural interactions, give you easy prompts, and keep things moving so the kids don’t get bored. We’ll play games, explore the spot we picked, and sneak in those quieter moments in between the chaos. No stiff posing, no fake smiles—just your family, as you are.

Step 04

Delivery & Beyond

After your session, I’ll carefully cull and edit the best images and deliver them in an online gallery. You’ll be able to download the high-resolution files, share them with family, and order prints, albums, or wall art. Need help deciding what to print or how big to go? I’ll walk you through options so these photos don’t just live on your phone.

You don’t have to show up knowing how to pose or what to do with your hands. Here’s how I make the whole thing feel relaxed and painless from start to finish.

Family Photo Locations in Hanover, Gettysburg, York & Beyond

You don’t need a “perfect” location to get great photos—you just need a spot where your family can relax and move. Some of my favorite places for family photography in Hanover, PA and South Central PA include:

Black and white motion blur photograph showing playful movement and running on an outdoor field.
  • Local parks and trails in and around Hanover for tall grass, trees, and golden hour light like Codorus and the Long Arm Reservoir
  • Gettysburg fields and historic areas for wide, cinematic backdrops
  • Downtown Hanover or York for more urban, brick-and-street style sessions
  • Your home or backyard if you want a laid-back, everyday-life feel
  • Seasonal spots like Christmas tree farms or fall foliage locations when the timing lines up

If you’re not sure what fits your family best, I’ll make recommendations based on your kids’ ages, mobility, and how much “adventure” you want in the session.

  • Session time that actually works for families – usually 45–90 minutes, depending on your crew

Kids Don’t Have to “Behave” for Good Photos

Kids, pets, and big feelings are welcome—seriously!

If you’re stressing about whether your kids will listen, relax. I fully expect:

  • Shy kids who take a while to warm up
  • High-energy kids who want to run everywhere
  • Babies who need breaks
  • Parents who feel awkward on camera

Between my time working as a photographer at Walt Disney World and my wife’s background working with kids there, we’re very used to big feelings, short attention spans, and every personality under the sun. My job is to work with that energy, not against it. We’ll take breaks when we need to, pivot if something isn’t working, and let the session flow around your family’s natural rhythm. Some of the best images happen in the in-between moments you don’t even think I’m shooting.

Pets are absolutely welcome too just let me know ahead of time so we can choose a pet-friendly location that gives them room to roam.

FAQ

How many images will we receive?

Enough to tell the full story of your session typically a solid variety of individual, sibling, and full-family shots. Every session will be a little different and it's hard at times to place a range of photos you can gurantee, but I will make sure to gurantee the best photos from the session.

What should we wear?

Neutrals and softer tones usually photograph best, but the most important thing is that everyone feels comfortable. I’ll send outfit tips and can help you narrow down options if you’re stuck between a few looks.

Can extended family join?

Yes—grandparents, cousins, and full extended-family sessions are available. Just mention it when you inquire so we can choose the right length of session and location.

Do you travel outside Hanover?

Absolutely. I photograph families across Hanover, Gettysburg, York, Lancaster, Harrisburg, and nearby parts of Maryland. If you’re further out, just ask I’m happy to chat about travel.

Ready to Update Your Family Photos?

Kids grow fast, seasons change, and phones fill up with blurry screenshots. A dedicated family session gives you images you’ll actually want to print, frame, and look back on years from now.
