Harrisburg, PA Wedding, Senior & Sports Photographer
I’m a South Central PA photographer based in Hanover, and Harrisburg is an easy drive for weddings, seniors, families, and sports. If you’re in or near Harrisburg and connect with my work, this page gives you a feel for how we can use the city as your backdrop.

Photographing in Harrisburg, PA

Harrisburg has a good mix of riverfront views, downtown streets, bridges, and parks. You can lean into a more urban feel near the Capitol and downtown, or keep it relaxed on City Island or in one of the nearby neighborhoods and green spaces. It works well for weddings, seniors, families, and teams who want a city option without going all the way to Philly.

A few ideas for sessions around the city

Riverfront & City Island
The Susquehanna riverfront, bridges, and City Island give you clean lines, water views, and open sky. Great for couples, seniors, and families who want something simple with a bit of a city feel.
Downtown & Capitol Area
Around downtown and the Capitol you’ll find staircases, columns, sidewalks, and side streets that photograph well for more dressed-up sessions—engagements, senior portraits, or wedding portraits on the day of.
Schools, Fields & Gyms
Harrisburg and the surrounding area have parks, fields, and courts that work well for families, seniors, and sports sessions. Once I know the vibe you’re going for, we’ll pick a spot that fits your story and is easy for you to get to.

Planning tips & FAQ
When is the best time of day for photos in Harrisburg?
Most Harrisburg locations look best during “golden hour” — the hour after sunrise or the hour before sunset. Riverfront and park sessions are usually scheduled around sunset. Downtown areas have a bit more flexibility, but we’ll still plan around the light so everything looks clean and flattering.
What should we wear or bring?
Wear something you can move in and feel like yourself in. Neutrals and solid colors usually photograph best, but one person in a bolder color or pattern can look great too. Avoid big logos or graphics if you can.
For families and seniors, think coordinated, not matching.
For sports sessions, bring your uniform, warm-ups, and any gear you want in the photos.
It’s also helpful to bring: comfortable shoes for walking, water, and a jacket if it’s cold we can always set things down between shots.
Do we need a permit for photos in Harrisburg?
Some locations in and around Harrisburg may require permission or a permit, especially on private property or certain city spaces. Once we decide on locations, I’ll check the current guidelines and we’ll plan around any rules or fees before your session.
What happens if the weather is bad?
If the forecast looks rough heavy rain, storms, or dangerous heat we’ll talk a day or two before your session and decide whether to adjust the time, switch locations, or reschedule. I’d rather move things than force a session where everyone is miserable.
That said, if it’s just rain or snow with no lightning, that can actually make for some really fun, moody photos. If you’re up for it, we can lean into the weather instead of running from it and plan a session that embraces the umbrellas, snow, and puddles.
