Photographing in Puerto Rico!
This trip was my first time ever in Puerto Rico, let alone the island of Vieques. We were here for Faith and Nick's wedding. This island is special to them, because the brides parents actually live here on the island!
Vieques is an island right off of the main island of Puerto Rico, and the way myself and my second shooter Valentino got to Vieques, was we flew into San Juan, took a taxi to the ferry port on the other side of the island, and then took a ferry to Vieques!
What did you think of Vieques!
or Isla de Vieques
We loved Vieques, its not my ordinary background in regards to wedding venues, but how many places will you just see wild horses roaming around. The wonderful couple had their wedding at this rental house in the backyard right on the ocean. Which was incredibly pretty, intimate, and honestly a blast.
In terms of the island and the town, it was so lovely. The locals to Vieques are incredibly nice and friendly our entire trip. There was even one moment we were walking to the ferry to head back to San Juan and it started raining a little and these two locals driving past us offered to drive us to the ferry so we didn't get really wet, and with a ton of photography gear in our bags that really saved us there. I also do not reccomend getting into a car with strangers, but you know what myself and Valentino are still here and alive and well!
How was photographing a wedding in Vieques?
It was great, this wedding was an absolute PARTY, it ended with the bride, groom, and half the guests including the grandmas jumping into the pool. The ceremony was gorgeous and really well done by the team at Vieques Event Planning. I loved how the couple opted in for just a long table to host them as well as all their bridal party and friends at one table. I am not someone to get uber emotional at a wedding, but I am gonna be honest the Father of the Bride's toast almost got me! Not only was this my favorite wedding of 2026 so far, it might be my favorite wedding I have been privilaged to photograph ever!
Would you return to Vieques for another Wedding?
Potentially! I had such a great time in Vieques, and I would love the opportunity to come back on a longer stay and also with my wife.....But I also live in Pennsylvania so its not the easiest of locations to get back to consistently. I think if there was a couple I really loved and wanted to work with, and they wanted to work with me I would be there for sure though.
